Moving Guide and Tips

In order to successfully prepare for your upcoming move, Winnipeg Moving has put together a helpful moving guide and tips to guarantee a winning relocation.

Preparing for a move

  1. Notify the telephone company to disconnect your phone one day later than your moving day. This way you will have use of the phone and movers will be able to contact you.
  2. Place anything YOU will be taking into a closet or a separate box and put a "do not move" sticker on it. (ie., suitcase, clothes, car keys, etc.) Mark articles in home e.g. airplane tickets, travelers cheques etc. which will not be loading with a "do not load" sticker.
  3. You may leave articles in your dresser drawers, but put items such as earrings, pins, etc. into a plastic zip lock bag, so they don't fall out.
  4. When the driver arrives, he will be placing a numbered tag on every box and piece of furniture. By doing so, he is marking down the articles we are removing from your home and what condition they are in. You will be asked to read this inventory, sign it and keep a copy with which you can check off all your belongings at destination.
  5. Make sure you check the home completely (closets, drawers, cupboards) before the movers leave, to ensure nothing is left behind. Also, give the driver at least two phone numbers where you may be reached at destination and your estimated time of arrival.
  6. Pack one box yourself and mark it with a large X. Ask the driver to load it last so it will be the first item off the moving van. In this box, you should keep a local telephone book, all your washroom supplies, 2 cups with coffee and kettle. Also, if you have any small children, include a toy or game for them. This way, at destination you can make a cup of coffee and let our experts do the rest.
