5 Tips for Moving in the Fall

You might think that moving during the summer is the easiest time to do so. Depending on your flexibility on your move date, this might be true but generally speaking, fall is the best time to move. The fall season is the most affordable time to move because it’s far less busy than the summer months. Additionally, cooler temperatures make lifting heavy boxes and objects much more pleasant than in the sweltering heat.

Keep this information and the following tips in mind next time you plan your move for making the process as smooth and difficulty free as possible.

  1. Plan Ahead for Your Kids
As you can imagine, moving near the start of the school year can be difficult for kids so plan ahead. Talk with them and answer any of their questions to make the process as easy as possible. Also make preparations with the school(s) so that they know when they’ll be absent and when they’ll be back. This way your children can be better prepared for when they return.

  2. Choose Your Moving Company
We mentioned earlier that the fall season is far less busy than in the summer months. This means you’ll have a better opportunity to choose a moving company at a much more affordable rate. Consider moving before the last week of the month as this tends to be the busiest part of the month all year round. Winnipeg Movers can work with your schedule and adeptly work in inclement weather to make your move as easy as possible.

  3. Clear Fallen Debris & Leaves
With movers constantly moving back and forth between your home and the truck, there’s always a chance that someone slips and falls while carry a heavy box on something as simple as a leaf. Make sure that all pathways to your home are clear to avoid possible slips and falls.

  4. Prepare Your Home
Up until your move day, start packing your home starting with light and non-essential items. Gradually pack your home until the day before and pack anything that remains, making sure all boxes are labelled especially those that are fragile.

On your actual move day, we suggest turning off your furnace. With the movers and yourself moving in and out of your home with the door open, it’s unnecessary and costly to have your heat constantly running. If you have any space heaters available, place them in your bathrooms to have a pleasant getaway when you need to go.

  5. Dress Appropriately
Finally, make sure you dress appropriately for the day. Weather in the fall can be unpredictable so make sure you have plenty of warm clothes set aside for your moving day just in case.
